The fact of the matter is that the site only provides a snapshot of yer character at any time, a priest could be wearing shadow gear on it one day, & healing gear the next, PVP characters gear would change more times than I have hot dinners. Like it says all the characters & accounts belong to Bliz anyway, so they can do with that information what they like, they just cannot disclose our personal RL information.
I think its great, when someone applies to a guild you can look up there char, if they claim to have done Dungeon X to death & be at a certain tier lvl, but all their gear is lvl 40 greens then you know they are lying. The Only reason I can see PVP players getting upset is so that they don't get there entire characters duplicated for use against them. Which personally I would be more flattered than annoyed at. It also allows you to see exactly why Hunter X just did a 20 meeellion crit on you as you rode past.
I can only see positives, not negatives, the only negative is that the site is buggy as fuck, with bits working here & there, but not the next day. It should be good when its finished.
