Bastids. Flashed doing 83 in a 70. Glorious day. Bugger all traffic. Now I have to weigh up whether to try one of these PACE Witness Statement things or just bite the bullet and take the 3 points and £60 fine. I'll probably try the PACE route and see how far things progress before pleading guilty by post... maybe.

I got 3 points a few years back, added £300 to my insurance, but then I was driving a group 19 car.

Worth trying to get out of it imo.

Did the camera look like this to try and disguise it?

No. It was painted bright yellow and blatantly left in full, unobstructed view in a deliberate attempt to fool motorists in to thinking that it couldn't be a normal speed camera. How did Fish get in to the police? I always thought he was white? ;)

Well they didn't take long to reply. This conditional offer of fixed penalty was sent out the same day as the PACE WS was delivered. My plan is to ignore this, wait for a summons then write to the court to ask them to hold the case in abeyance until a ruling is delivered from the European Court of Human Rights regarding Francis and O'Halloran v UK.

Not had a summons yet. If the complaint is not laid with the court by 3rd March, it will have been 6 months and that means they can't prosecute. I am an unlucky bast with these things though so will probably find that they lay the case on the 2nd and something heavy will land on my door mat, after 2 weeks or so, when the court gets round to issuing the summons. Bottle of champagne at the ready to either celebrate or drown my sorrows.

Take it on the chin, learn your lesson, dont do it again and say thanks, because if you do learn your lesson then your kids may have a dad for a bit longer. Or someones else's kids coudl get to have their parents for a bit longer.

It's not big and it's not clever - grow up.

My best friend and grandfather for example? oh that's already happened.

I don't mind if the reasons are for safety set up on an accident blackspot I took my 3 points and took the £300/yr increase in car insurance on the chin, but mostly it's about revenue and hiding in bushes for the coppers.

Quite frankly I'm more concerned about drug dealers, burglars, muggings, robberies, gun crime and other crimes which have far more potential of happening to my nearest and dearest than some spotty chelsea fan hitting you for a quick fix revenue fine for doing a couple of miles an hour over the limit.

I hate the fact that the UK's traffic planners couldn't find their own arse with both hands and a map and their sole design tool appears to be to introduce fucking speed humps everywhere, there are far better ways of introducing traffic calming.

I guess it's all about personal priorities, mine I guess are different to yours, but not everyone who goes a couple of miles an hour over the speed limit is a kiddy killer doing 300 miles an hour with a bottle of JD in the other hand while on their mobile phone.

I'm not whinging. I thought this post would be useful to others who might find themselves in a similar position, which is being threatened with an even larger penalty if they do not incriminate themselves when caught by a speed camera. I will, in future, stick to posting You Tube links and whinging about WoW ;)

It's all going to change soon anyway and hopefully for the better. The government is scrapping the 'National Safety Camera' programme shortly. Rather than the old method of providing local camera partnerships with grants equivalent to the projected amount of revenue they will earn (i.e. stick up as many cameras as you can, where ever you like), the grant is going to be based onother things such as the quality of local government plans to reduce casualties in the same area and whether the casualty reduction targets are met. Also there will be stricter regulations on where cameras can be placed.

Although I have to admit there's one thing that irritates me. There's this whole legal thing about entrapment. The council recently had to remove all speed cameras from the ring-road because it was found that there wasn't enough distance to see the camera's and therefore drivers were being 'entrapped'..

I fail to see how taking a picture of someone who is speeding on a road with a constant speed limit is entrapment. Never mind the fact that the ringroad was designed in the 50's and people speeding on there represent a tangible risk to all drivers.

I don't agree with these cameras in variable speed limit zones that are clearly intended to catch the driver out. It's the ones on roads that need something to deter speeding that we should accept and ensure are there.

You'd hear no complaints from most people if cameras were outside schools or on busy roads near school crossings for instance.

I reckon it's totally off that they have to warn people that there's speed cameras around. You don't hear murderers complaining about entrapment when they're spotted by a witness they didn't see when they got happy with the carving knife.

On the nail mate. If speed camera were placed outside every school, on every crossing and at proven accident blackspots then I don't think people flashed have a leg to stand on. But blatantly placing cameras to earn revenue, rather than to promote safety, is just taking the piss (refer to my speeding pic).

As for the ring road, I can't believe the council would remove them because people are crying 'Entrapment' though, unless the council bods have deliberately placed the cameras behind road signs so as to be less visible. Sounds dodgy to me. My guess is either that the up and coming stricter regulations for speed camera placement and/or maybe there is actually a lack of accidents to justify their placement have necessitated their removal. Otherwise, there is every reason for them to remain. Strange...
