A pointless poll, just seeing how things are going WOW wise.

Prompted by ... talking to a few ppl in RL / game, I'm just sensing a bit of enui creeping in.

i.e.

Burning Crusdae nerfing previous hard earned blues / purples OR OMFG!!! New shiny greens! wow.

Limited new areas OR New areas!!!

Killing mobs over and over and over and over ... OR wow! I can fly! Drop bombs! Epic fly!

I've subscribed, and had to pay for a new expansion that's squishhed the rest of the game OR A new expansion! Every year! woo.

And I read the PCG review ('its all about da numbers).

So - poll time

I'm not gonna tempt anyone.

If you want the truth - it's option 2

if Mmorpg's are your thang and you're a bit fed up of wow - don't get vanguard. Why? cos it's everquest in disguise

Don't get Conan

Why?

it looks shit and probably will be shit

Don't get lotro

Why?

Well it's tolkein. What's worse than tolkein fans? Tolkein fans online, in a universe based around tolkein, with names like legolasx111

In my not at all humble opinion wow is the best of a bad bunch atm. War may be the saviour if EA Games don't do an EA Games and fuck it all up. If they do, well we're sat hoping that Relic pull a blinder on mmo debut with warhammer 40k mmorpg. Orks, in space, who couldn't love that?

I'm very jaded with the mmorpg market atm. I've been playing em probably longer than anyone bar gangster in gings and nothing beats Daoc so far. Eve is getting exciting now with me about to join a big corp but it still lacks the personal involvement I get from things like daoc.

I think triggs summed it up when he said "if it had a cockpit view with joystick control I think I'd like it"

It is incredibly complex and incredibly tactical but it's not very tactile which is why I wouldn't recommend it to anyone on ze forums and why I've not pushed it.

FPS is probably the way for now - CS:S or (dare I say it) something liek bf 2142 or the next good fps online might be worth a blast to recharge batteries until the next big thing happens.

To anyone who joined us in WOW - this happens to us btw. It's normal (for us)

We all get a game, get excited, get jaded, leave, come back, get jaded again, leave, come back, leave for good and then bum around on ze forumz until the next big game arrives.

I'll be hanging here and hoping you all have had a good enough time to join us on our next big game.

btw - if you're still enjoying wow - fair play to you. It's not over til it's over and if you're happy there I won't knock it. For 1-60 (and probably 1-70) it's one of the best mmo's ever. Which is contrary to my favourite mmo - daoc - which was (imo) entirely shit until you dinged 50 (max lvl) and could go big boy rvr. Then it was great fun - and I mean great fun. If they get war right - well - I hope you;re with us for it.

Cheers

M

Ta! Interesting reply.

I know btw that I joined gings in WOW, but the fact that this forum has 'World of Cybergings' in a WOW pastiche top centre, is kind of a pointer to current obsessions, and I'm not quitting it any time soon.

I'm finding my usual (slow) grind up to max level fun, with the quests and story lines hanging together well. Infact, it's probably even more fun, as areas aren't aggressively farmed by 30 ppl all trying to kill Named Mob of Doom.

BUT I'm finding its ... still WOW. It's still killing mobs repeatedly. It's still about the loot. And I'm missing, ( and I never thought I'd say this), raids and big groups Guild style. I'm sure that there's some of that going on at the moment for you L70's, but it's not in the same league as before, and the goalposts seem to have retreated down the field for major endgame content.

So I'm playing, but looking. As it were... (and vanguard did look good :P )

POTBS looks interesting, but so does Conan.

Eventually we'll probably all end up in WAR, till that time I'm happily "beta testing" everything Fileplanet can toss at me.

More or less, yeah. I think the economy'll be a bit more solid than EVE's (can't really do a straight comparison, since the "tech level" differs a bit too much), and same goes for production.

Oh, and don't forget... pirates.

EVE's economy rocks! It's easily the best in any MMO atm and Id find it hard to believe any other game could take the title off it, unless its Monopoly Online or Pics of Your Bird Online.

And theres no corp war Goose - its an alliance war! 7 alliances versus 3 (beefy ones, with more smaller ones tagging on), split over 2 huge areas of the map. People are calling it EVE's "First World War" (or Galaxy War if you want to sound like a pernickity chelsea fan).

Read up a bit on PotBS's planned economy system, Delta. I've played EVE Online (for a looong time, quit around Shiva release), and while the economy is the best in any currently released MMOG, I think (and hope) that PotBS's economy will be a lot better than EVE's. Personally I found EVE's economy to work really well in the early stages of the game, but it soon became bogged down by a few things that most MMOGs have in common: inflation and mudflation.

Only time will tell if PotBS dodges this or not. Let's hope they do.

Oh, and it will have support for PhysX cards too! Even more reason to get it ;)

If you want a space game with cockpit and stick and *entirely* skill based, you'll want to try out Jumpgate.
