Dear All,

You will hopefully be reading this because you recieved my city wide email.

I think we need to decide on how far we wish to take our village. At present we are at least 2 weeks (given a massive recruitment drive on our part) from the ability to place a shuttleport and cloning centre. Even if we decide to go ahead I think I should make you aware of the costs.

At the moment we charge a 2k per week citizen tax. This is the most we can charge and I feel its fairer than property taxes that punish our traders unfairly. This means we raise 50k a week from our residents and our city hall mainteance is 61,500. This is without trainers, more mission terminals and any sexy city developments. If we were to place the trainers and mission terminals that we could - well costs would escalate, rapidly.

Obviously there is a shortfall in costs and we need 31 citzens before we break 'even' on maintenance alone. If we then choose to further expand the city our maintenance jumps to 85k and from there to 125k. Bear in mind that these costs are without the added costs of a Shuttleport and Cloning Centre.

Personally I feel that a shuttleport is a waste of resource. At 2km from Coronet we are not far enough away for anyone to bother shuttling to us. I doubt very much whether the costs would be covered by visitors.

The questsion I am asking is as follows. How do you want to see the city develop? I am not training my current politician skill points until I have guaged the feelings of the populace. The way I see it is as follows.

1. We recruit more citizens and offer discounted or free small houses so we can get people in the city and expand for the facilities that we want.

2. We Hold as we are and search for a couple of small rebel/neutral guilds like us who want to co-habit a city and share the burdens.

3. We decide to hold as we are - or even drop down to outpost status and blank the whole city idea as a bad thing.

4. We look for a new home and move into someone elses city.

I don't favour any of these ideas at present, I just feel as though we need to sit down and decide a direction. Once we pick that direction we should stick to it imo. Please comment on this thread and be honest in what you expect from the city and how you would like it to develop. I don't mind sacrificing the skill points to master politician if we get a cool and happy city, I don't want to sacrifice these points for a half arsed affair that we end up regretting :)

Cheers

Mayor Revor

I just wondered in here as I'm at work so haven't seen any e-mails :D . Tbh I'm not really too fussed what happens to the city the only thing I like is having a mission terminal next to my house. I've not noticed any huge differences since getting a city rather than just being a PA, I've only been into the city hall twice I think so not sure how much anyone uses it. I thought the main reason for the city was to get people living there so we see them around a bit and see if they'd fit into the guild. Plus the reason I was told we accepted so many people into the guild rather than just have them as citizens was so that it would be easier to keep in contact and thus control of the city, going on a mass drive for citizens now would kind of contradict that and just leave us with a city full of strangers and potential village idiots as well as increasing the chances we'd get another politician wonder in and if the population of strangers is too great then they'd stand a chance of getting voted in.
Having said that I know that you're not finding politician as much fun as you thought it would be anyways and at the end of the day it's a game and you should be able to do what you want rather than waste your skill points on something you have little interest in and as it's you making the biggest sacrifice you should probably have more say, though with the amount of people with 2nd accounts that they rarely use if you did want to drop politician it may not mean the end of the city as someone could just make their spare account mayor.

/me ignores Beans' unmotivational and disuasive speech towards Goose's politician career.

I am thoroughly against a cloning centre as I see even less point in it than a shuttleport. I would like a shuttle port in the city for status reasons. 2km awy from Coronet or not, we look shabby without a shuttleport, and I will pay any monies towards it gladly.

Why do we want a cloning centre in our city if we never hunt there? And on the rare occasion we do, no one dies.

A shuttleport not only makes the city more valid, but it WILL be used by many people. I have customers in the North of Corellia who come to Ius to buy droids, and would be very happy to shuttle straight in. And what about those with harvesters near our city? A shuttleport allows them closer access to them.

Think about it, AH is a little over 2km from Bestine, yet everyone still shuttles between the 2.

Anyhoo, we need to get our citizens relocated to more suitable spots within our city. Aekri'a and Highn for a start, and I'd like to see the rabble of houses behind the city hall reordered. Who ever grants zoning rights has to take the responsibility of seeing the house planted in the correct spot. If they don't have time then it should be delegated.

After discussion with some of the "core" guild members the general feeling is thus:

YES we wanna keep Ius

YES we do understand the restrictions it is to your char goose, so Xui is willing to take over as mayor (at ur discretion of course) as he has duel accounts and enough skill points to satisfy even his greedy need for xp.

YES we want to grow. But at what speed is irrelevant, steady growth is as preferred as quick bursts.

YES the arguement re: Cloning centre/shuttleport rages on, though in reality we know that we can have both within a month or so, so its really a petty dispute.

Other ideas from the discussion included maybe giving out free/cheap houses on 2 days a week (2 days pimping out of 7 is easy)

Major pimping for another guild to share the city responsiblity (revor to make a thread on the official forums?)

An Idea i had was more city envolvment, perhaps a massive group hunt, as Jark et al seem to enjoy a hunt or two, may make them talk to their m8s :)

Thats all from me :P

What I like about Ius is that it is a place I can meet friends and feel at home. You can sort of hang around and fool around until some hunt gets organized or until you leave for your own business.
It is also a place where you know you have friends you can depend on. Each specializing in a certain area and helping each other out. You don't have to "trust" someone unknown or have to search for half a day for a specific item you want. While interacting with the unknown or finding that really rare item in a secret corner of the galaxy can be fun it is good to know that for 99% of your business you can depend on friends.

I don't mind if Ius is getting bigger and bigger but what I then would like to see is a PA hall closed to non-guild members (maybe we can move the vendors to a market hall). I just like it to have a place to walk in where I can meet only you guys. A place to feel home. Not a place crowded with strangers spamming the chat channel, directing you with questions or god knows what. For that I can go to Coronet.

Having said that I hope Ius will grow steadily and will provide any luxury availabe (cloning centre, trainers, shuttleport etc.), as long as each citizen is paying equally. I don't like the idea of pimping ourselves and getting people to our city with offers of free/cheap houses. I want people to think before they decide to come and live with us in Ius.

ARGH

They have changed the whole posting order on the politician boards and one of the most useful threads ever has disappeared.

Essentially it told me what level city cost what upkeep and which facilities it could have.

Now - An end to the shuttleport vs cloning centre debate please. We cannot have a cloning centre until we are a level 3 city (Township) and we cannot have a shuttleport until we are a level 4 city (City). To further throw the cat amongst the pigeons - the numbers of level 4 and 5 cities are now going to be capped, so we may NEVER be able to get a shuttleport.

Its not that I begrudge the politician skill points. Its that the skill trees are fucked. A classic example is this:
A rank 1 outpost can have a small garden. The ability to place small gardens is gained at level 3 or 4 of City Customisation. Thats 8500 xp minimum away. over 2 months with 10 citizens.

Like I said I am happy to keep politician although I do think that if someone with a second character wants to take over as mayor I would accept their kind offer as there are (imo) more productive things that I can do. Once somebody wins an election and trains Militia1 and Fiscal policy1 (easy enough to do with 2600xp per week as both skills cost 1000xp).

I also don't mind which way we develop the city - I don't care as long as we all agree the direction that we take and we are all happy.

Don't we have a ballot box sitting in the PA hall? Can that actually be used for voting on such things or is it just for show?

It is for this reason that we need to grow quicker than we are.

The earliest we can hit City is 2 weeks away.

There are 9 cities with shuttleports already, Only 10 player cities can progress to lvl 4 status on each planet.

I thought it varied from planet to planet as to how many cities could progress, I remember reading in one of the patches about them doubling the amounts some time ago, though it may have changed since then I suppose.

I'm not sure what the cap is for Corellia, but its the lowest cap in the galaxy. 10 sounds about right.

It might be higher than 10

But even if it is higher than 10 we don't have a lot of time imo

Too late now, someone's posted on the forums saying they've tried to place a shuttleport on Corellia and it says the limit has been reached.
